"Easterners
on ancient earth were accustomed to sit upon....."
"Fifteen hundred years have elapsed since the last battle assuming
cataclysmic proportions occurred upon ancient earth. We now term that time
zone as the old, lost world." The gentleman displaying outward signs of
gentle behavior, interrupted politely and with unsaid apology.
A single speck upon wide, undisturbed plains altered a continuation
formation of hard silt like soil, encrusting nearly the entire surface
area pattern of this man made planet; named the alternate satellite of
Earth's moon. Additionally, this speck upon moon's satellite existed
as a mammoth multi storied construction named “Moon One”, Advanced Space
Research Laboratory. An oval shaped glass-plastic material about fifteen
feet thick, a hundred miles in diameter and about half a mile tall encased
this lab.
"We were discussing our ancestors' behavior patterns....."
"With which we are not familiar now, in 4615 C.E." The gentleman added in
final tones.
A small group of two dozen people was gearing up to vacate moon's premier
satellite lab, conveniently named the Moon, Advanced space research
laboratory. Their observation tenure had arrived at a temporary halt, at
least for many amongst the group of inter-planetary and outer-space
personnel. Their inter-planetary formation upon earth’s first man made
satellite, had formed an initial part of an observation-cum-study term,
extending for the usual six earth months.
This group of inter-planetary astronauts, physicians, cosmonauts and
scientists were stationed upon “moon one’’ by virtue of select screening -
by senior members of Earth, Forward Space Research Laboratory. Earlier
however, and prior to landing upon moon’s satellite, they were
compulsorily made to halt in moon space stations. At the end of their
first day inside Moon's advanced space-city colony they had become
thoroughly accustomed to a scheduled. The scheduled halt was a purely
temporary one, while on their way to its satellite space station.
Now, towards the end of their six months stay upon the moon’s satellite,
they occasionally deliberated in talking shop while working upon the
immediate and important matter at hand; observing all outer space
meteoric trajectories which were likely to intercept earth for the coming
six earth months, and in its relation, they had to additionally scrutinize
earth from all possible angles. This six months duration formed their
fixed ‘observation time limit’ upon the moon’s satellite.
"I have gathered adequate proof of our deviated observation; ample
evidence." The female scientist stated quietly, solemnly, two months after
their arrival upon Moon's satellite.
Her
audible comment was more pronounced at a time when the others were
thoroughly assured by computer-radar derivations, that Earth could be
classified Temporarily Safe for the immediate future--from
colliding meteors and rocks-rain showers. This fact was further confirmed
by their personal verification of readily available, manually examined
computerized data.
"Do you mean the Twilight Zone? Are you referring to that?" He
asked her in direct tones.
He
was aware her reputation as an inter-planetary and outer space research
scientist would elevate her "discovery" of a hitherto unknown zone upon
earth. Earth coordinates leading to the much acclaimed yet elusive
“Twilight Zone” somehow seemed to escape the attention of all the highly
calculated and extra ordinary scrutiny; successively applied for more
than five thousand years in progression upon earth. Generation after
generation of studies performed by humans however, brought in no further
knowledge of the "Twilight Zone"; other than what was once considered -- a
vivid imagination in the minds of humans with no conclusive proof.
"Yes." Her statement shook the others as they stared at her in awe and
utter disbelief.
“Surely you’re not planning to rediscover The Twilight Zone!
…..Rather, that unknown and mystic place and its various landing
coordinates, as soon as we step back upon earth!" Her inter planetary
companion exclaimed in amazement.
There was an abrupt absence of rational answers inside the silent confines
of Moon One--advanced research space lab, constructed and located upon the
primary and man made satellite of Earth's moon. As a matter of fact the
outer space personnel had no inkling to any sort of answers to the
latter’s question.
Moon's primary satellite was never discovered.
Descendant humans living upon earth’s age at around 3200 c.e. had created
it. This Herculean feat traversed several centuries of immaculate human
progress, distinctly marked by the culmination of a colossus effort-- with
application of zero gravity inter planetary space cars, and an unending
collection of stellar and space debris. Through centuries of
dedication, humankind was constant in its endeavors to make the satellite
resemble a planet-like sphere till the present age.
Finally, it measured half the total surface area of Earth's first and only
natural moon and remained in regular, steady orbit. It circled the moon at
a distance of a quarter light year, while revolving in the heavenly
'fields' in consonance with other heavenly bodies of the solar system,
comprising 10 planets in 4615 c.e.
Additionally that single spec—in reality a research advanced space
laboratory-- towered like a unique milestone, marking Earth's
technological progress towards the heavenly skies. Located upon those wide
and desolate plains forming semi-natural imported soil and which actually
comprised the major topsoil of the satellite, that multi storied super
structure resembling a mammoth lab was an only indication of
confirmed human habitation.
‘Moon one lab’ resembled a large prototype of any other inter-planetary
space lab, appearing proportionate to regular 4615 c.e laboratory
formations. Fifty years had elapsed since this space laboratory commenced
its formal, bleak existence upon the moon's satellite.
The crew presently occupying its internal dimensions was however,
trans-located directly from earth. They were initially told to bypass all
manned flights to moon in the first phase of their journey. ‘Earth
Command ’ensured that selection of inter-planetary space personnel
stationed upon moon stations was not necessary for this particular
six-month observation tenure. Accordingly, Earth “Forward space
research labs” and “advanced space research labs” were 'advised' by
Earth Command of those inter-planetary decisions. Members of Earth Command
formed the primary governing structure for the worlds’—or
inter-planetary—governance; comprising Earth, Mars, Pluto, Venus, Neptune
and Jupiter space-city stations.
There existed other matters at hand requiring closer scrutiny and Earth
Command was particularly specific in its advice for this single journey.
Consequently, the World council enforced that advice through earth-forward
research space labs and finally, the advanced space research labs
coordinated all such inter-planetary activities!
This particular batch of inter-planetary outer space personnel was acutely
aware of that fact. Their immediately silent yet necessary presence upon
the satellite was precipitated by other valid and important reasons, not
revealed to world council members.

“Six months is a pretty long duration of time." The gentleman made an
informal beginning to a string of conversation. He was assured of certain
prerogatives much prior to this day, upon earth. Earth command hierarchy
took care of all the loose ends existing in this mission and they assured
him of total cooperation from the members of the interplanetary team.
Accordingly therefore, the other members had earlier, unanimously agreed
to dwell upon topics of importance while waiting for their return
flight to earth stations; and now, towards the end of their six-month
term, were anticipating an inter-planetary zero gravity ship to
dock upon Moon One inter planetary hangars.
“Earth stations’ zero gravity space ship” codenamed moon ship
five—maneuvered itself on auto pilot controls while its flight crew rested
inside. Presently on its way across chartered inter-planetary star-walks
routes, the space ship engaged its computers in auto evaluation while
approaching moon one. It’s external, primary computers minutely corrected
each landing flaw its internal mechanisms could possibly make. The robotic
flight data computers were programmed to perform efficiently at
nano-levels of flight efficiency-- assisted by its central computers
activated silently from Earth Stations. The computerized radio-light
telescope-radar back up remained consistent, activated from Mars’
inter-planetary space stations.
"You're correct. It is a tremendously long passage of time in outer
space. I was counting each second!"
The exit chamber, termed as the 'internal atmospheric regulating chamber'
occupied the rear end portion of the mammoth space lab. It did not appear
to be crowded even while accommodating a crew numbering two dozen humans
because a few hundred people were capable of seating themselves inside
comfortably and with total ease.
“We have determined no immediate danger to Earth at present, have we?"
The gentleman asked a routine question, which required no immediate
answers.
He and the remaining twenty-three members were keenly aware of one
prominent fact--that the internal mechanisms of this particular space
observatory had systemically recorded every known trajectory, each unknown
path of meteor showers—at every moment through the past six months.
Advanced telescopic-radar computers located at strategic points within the
lab also recorded all such probable trajectories. Then again, comparative
readings between auto and manual derived computer graphs totally negated
mistakes from occurring. Ever.
Earth was therefore termed safe for the present. Safety parameters
involved negating the not so vague and distant factors of colliding
meteors heading directly into earth's orbital path from the skies of 4615
c.e.
It had begun several centuries earlier, when a sudden and unexpected
commencement of Earth's first and inexplicable rocks-meteors rain
storms brought about innumerable ‘earth changes’. Immediately
thereafter, earth's technological progresses were abruptly deviated from
the usual and accepted advancement. Humankind began to progress upwards
into the skies instead, reaching out to Moon, Mars, Jupiter and Pluto.
Contrary to earlier planetary-settling options provided to humans in the
previous centuries, people were made to inhabit the outer planets in
greater numbers. It seemed like an exodus in the beginning and for more
than a century, this exercise of relocating humans upon the other planets
continued unabated. Space cities upon mars, Venus, Jupiter and Pluto were
accommodating more human settlers than ever before!
“Earth cannot be declared perfectly safe for further human habitation”,
combined earth administration
agencies declared during the initial stages when such meteoric rain
showers fell upon earth consistently, though more so upon unhabited areas
of the earth.
Finally, inter-planetary scientists decided to create 'a first satellite'
– diligently molding it through a time progression of one and a half
centuries. During this time period they also accepted nature's self
assistance, allowing the satellite to resemble in all aspects a look alike
of those familiar sights in the heavenly skies--a natural planet.
Only, this particular planet appeared totally circular at the upper and
lower ends, for it had been created by the efforts of humans and therefore
its ends were not naturally carved to appear rather flat. The north and
south poles of the satellite were not flat like the other naturally
existing planets.
They said that the North and South Poles of this man made satellite would
automatically wear off to form blunt ends with the passage of time. Such
an occurrence was destined to begin only when the satellite commenced
rotating on its own axis. That is what the inter-planetary scientists
responsible for developing the satellite stated during initial phases,
about fifty years after project ‘Moon satellite’ commenced. “In due course
of time the satellite will become a mini planet.” They finally concluded.

Primary functions of all observational teams-- regularly dispatched to
earth's moon satellite-- happened to be far from the usual. Earth command
was careful never to evacuate the satellite research lab even for one
earth day…..although it would take barely one earth month of unmanned
activity to elapse before anticipated meteor showers were likely to change
sudden course from their regular trajectories in the unknown skies. There
existed every possibility that such "meteor-rains” could travel towards
earth and destroy its surface and human habitation. Therefore the presence
of a human observational team upon moon became a necessary factor. Manual
recordings were of utmost necessity to predict meteor showers.
Earth Command had stationed thousands of zero gravity ships at selected
vantage points between earth’s skies and the inner solar system, ranging
to a few light years above Pluto, the last planet; ready to blast such
meteors and reduce these to ash -- a regular drill in the chartered skies
above earth’s outer atmosphere.
Moon one was therefore never kept in an uninhabited state! Not even for a
minute.
Inter-planetary zero gravity space ships inevitably followed direct,
uninterrupted flight paths to earth stations during return journeys.
Conversely, for all outbound journeys from earth stations to satellite
two, or to other space stations located elsewhere within the solar system,
interplanetary regulations demanded one compulsory halt upon Moon
stations, in its central space lab. This drill formed a primary method for
refreshment, plentiful human company and good, healthy imported
earth-water baths. For the observational crew this procedure would be duly
followed by a six-month tenure upon "satellite two".
Their mission was --Scanning the limitless boundaries of their solar
system for approaching meteors, rocks and space debris--particularly the
ones which were most likely to intercept earth head-on and with greater
chances of direct collision.

"This forward observation post shall immediately relay all such
anticipated meteor showers directly to earth stations! Our computerized
radio-light telescopic-radars located upon satellite two are placed at the
furthest distance from variant atmospheric levels. These can therefore
neatly trace graphic lines describing projectile paths of oncoming rocks,
meteors, meteoric showers, etc. Our view of the cosmos from advanced space
labs upon satellite two is uninterrupted and constant. There are
negligible chances of atmospheric disturbances caused to our observation
teams, and we require perfection in our agenda. This is a matter of
Earth’s highest safety and our future. Everything is at stake here and
now. We cannot fail for our success is assured.....
Senior members within the upper hierarchy of Earth Command-- the
primary world governance order--had issued their unanimous advice. Such
comments were precisely comprehensible since the past fifty years.
Immediately afterwards and down the inter-planetary governance line, World
Council assumed a second administrative formation in inter-planetary or
worlds’ governance matters. This body of selected humans functioned
directly under Earth Command. They followed the latter’s advice and orders
to the letter and were known to be one hundred percent efficient people.

“Are you sure that is our correct search location-area?" The lady's
companion enquired at the commencement stages, when most of the team
members were engrossed upon a dual routine; involving an additional
study-pattern. They were attempting to rediscover certain lost
coordinates leading to the Twilight Zone! It was a
generally accepted fact that a zone corresponding to that name was
spotted earlier in the mid twenty fifth century, prior to some of the
previous holocausts upon Earth; battles which scarred earth for a long
time to come.
